West Campus

West Campus is the most popular UT Austin neighborhood. It is located just across the street from the university and runs along Guadalupe St., know as “The Drag” because of all the shops, restaurants & bars that Austinites frequent. For housing options in the neighborhood, you will find Mid & High-Rise Apartments, Condos, Townhomes, Duplexes, Houses, Sororities, Fraternities and Cooperatives. Leases in this neighborhood typically run from August to July of the following year.

North Campus

North Campus is popular with people looking for a little respite from the hustle-bustle of West Campus. This neighborhood begins at Dean Keeton and runs north along Lamar, Speedway, Guadalupe, and Red River. Although North Campus is what this area is referred to as, the actual neighborhoods that comprise the area are Heritage, Hyde Park, Hancock, and The Triangle. North Campus provides additional opportunity to find Studio & 1 Bedroom Apartments & Condos; as well as larger Houses & Duplexes with a yard. Typically, you will find less Mid & High-rise apartments that offer furniture packages or academic calendar year leases. Make plans to use the UT Bus Route or Protected Bike Lanes to commute to Campus if you venture further north than 38th St.

East Campus

Located just east of I-35, the eastside is a beautiful, diverse area. If you are open to living in this neighborhood you might be able to find that large house that you weren’t able to find in West or North Campus. This neighborhood doesn’t typically cater to academic calendar year leases, furnished units, or roommate matching; all of these would be the student comforts found mostly in the West Campus neighborhood. With that said, the eastside has a lot to offer and you can find many great properties in Cherrywood, Chestnut, and Rosewood. As far as commuting goes, the UT bus route also runs through this neighborhood, and biking to campus is viable.

South Campus

South Campus is the smallest of the UT Campus neighborhoods. The reason for that is because once you go south of UT, you run into the Texas State Capitol Complex, The Museum District, The Medical District and Downtown Austin within a few blocks. The presence of these neighborhood factors shifts the feel of the neighborhood. With that said, South Campus offers all types of housing options, Student High-Rise Apartments, Condos, Townhomes and a few houses. Living in this neighborhood is interesting because you will feel a little more connected to the downtown lifestyle and will have the quickest access to downtown Austin, Lady Bird Lake, South Lamar, and South Congress when compared to West, North & East Campus. With that said, it is a popular option because of the quick access to the south side of campus and the walkability to West Campus and all the shops and restaurants on “The Drag”.
